This is a two person duck hunting trip in the Lower Laguna Madre leaving from South Padre Island, Texas. Species of ducks that winter here are Pintails, Redheads, Teal, Widgeon, Shovelers, Scaup, Buffleheads, Ruddy Ducks and Mottled Ducks plus more. Typically hunt over decoy blocks of at least 70 decoys. Guide will provide a retriever. Clients can bring their own dog if approved by guide. Season typically runs from first weekend of November through last weekend in January. Season is split and is out of season from last Sunday after Thanksgiving and Starts again on second Saturday in December. Hunters need approximate license and waterfowl stamps plus HIP enrollment. Teal, Widgeon, Gadwall, Pintail and plenty of other puddle ducks use these well managed properties to feed and roost which offers consistent and quality hunts. We are also known for our consistency of killing Snow's, Blue's and Speck's over large spreads. These hunts are conducted over cut rice, soybean's, winter wheat, and plowed fields. Captain Bobby's self guided duck hunts consist of the blind and decoys being pre-set, if you wish to re-arrange the decoys, you alwayscan. On the self guided hunts, it is up to you, the hunter, to bring your dog to retrieve their birds, or to go and collect the birds yourself. Unlike diving ducks and puddle ducks, Wood Ducks move on a much more consistent schedule and they don't dally. Between first light and sunrise, big flocks move from the roost site to their food source, all at once. If you're hitting your marks, you can have a very efficient morning hunt! Lake Livingston attracts many species of puddle and diving ducks. Wood Ducks and Mallards, are the most sought-after here. They prefer backwater habitats, especially the sloughs and oxbows common in this area. Kirk has been hunting this lake for years and has the perfect honey holes and set ups, coupled with proper scouting, to get you plenty of shots on the Woodys.
